The Hand ( poetry for my calendar assignment )

Author: matthew /

As of olden quotes and modern notes
Such tenderness a hand in yours
Such enablement a hand be yours
A medium of life's undertakings
A hand is made for the taking

For when the creation was good
Thus the wonder of the moment
The mold of the creator's own
The hand which birth to all
Let yours and mine rejoice!

To wonders the hands could do
Till destruction it may brew
Such power to none has fathomed
Such glorious inglory uncertain
Let it rest silenced till the Day

For much it can make
So much it will break
Countless art it is to create
Yet the limit is not to break
So much it could do so few it could make

And for such we call unto Thee
One who knew not mistakes
One who put all he was at stake
To that on our knees we fall
My prayer accomplishes that of my hands could not.

Fool

Delighted to the bundle of joy a woman who births,
In agony of sorrow the fruit of the womb anticipates,
Of care & love thus woman knew little end;
Such blessed the woman knows only to give.

How did a young sought such destruction?
Bitter sweet do not take me wrong;
Woman knows one when the Father has gifts,
How did a young sought much healing?

Young to the lad, weightly took heed,
Ordained to lead, gifted to speak,
Lit are the ways Father is seeked,
Pure of those hearts, how could I remind?

Part of the boy, the other a man?
How it could be, a thorn went steep?
Dreams were the days, old are the ways,
Sense to the none; nay, they are not! not even a way.

Castle named charm, fortress called sleek,
Ladies to the amount romped in deep,
Fresh acquaintance hollers pride,
Quickened heart why to no despise?

Hush, hush quickened heart,
Thought of every moonlight,
A hope for lass of my youth,
Gracing dove-like knowing not soon.

Regarded not but to the follies of past,
Pierced are the hearts lest it should last,
Knew not the tears what the ear had heard;
Acts to the fool that heart knows hurt.

Commited are so that foolish ways,
Lead him as so dear Father I pray,
Taught my heart, let it come to past;
Commited so be it my ways, Jesus henceforth my part.

The fruit of such woman's womb now breaks in pain,
Forgive done his ways, forgiven thus my days,
I'm sorry.

Tune in..

A Wise Saying

I couldn't agree more with this label. Shall live by it :D

The Hardest Part

Author: matthew /

The hardest part of departing from this place,
is to not know have I been there before
& at the same time experiencing its soil
my footprints proves it true.

Simpler than these of chipping down a mountain
with no more than a silver coin how should I proceed?
to behold unable to withhold,
such passion unwilling to be mentioned,
may it be now let our hearts not doubt.

Ah, let the good men prove me wrong!
Such a season given to unreasoned fluctuant competence,
be vigilant for the demeanor of youth;
tenderly insulted by imponderable descrepance
I will heed for my Lord sent before I could spend,
the lot in heaps amiss
Father knows best for our increase;
If ever He wills I'll be here again,
stronger & higher than I have been.

But have I been there? Have I seen?
The beauty of lillies how shall they compare?
A thousand garlands can't withstand a share
certainly the Maker foremost thought of you so fair
replicating your beauty to the gardens in every square.
The beauty of lillies how shall they withstand?
A thousand garlands is still beyond compare.

How wonderful my Savior has drawn out & planned,
that two ends should meet completing a whole.
No, no, no, must not be broken ends;
but completed, harmonizing a single whole.
Such mysteries Solomon & his beloved did foretold.

Yet the hardest part still plagues me adazed;
how will I ever leave this place?

SF posters

Author: matthew /

Here are a few of my work that I've recently submitted for my typography assessment to date. I've taken switchfoot albums as my main theme & these posters act as mock promotional posters for their album releases. So don't sue me for false information in the posters...Enjoy(I'm not sure why all my pics are downsized once uploaded here so I'm sorry but you might not be able to view the fullness of it in detail)

This piece is actually a revamp of the original "Oh! Gravity" artwork of illustrated impressions of the band members. I've colored them in with pretty colors & of course added in typography in their hairs or else my lecturer might get a heart attack haha...Their names & some of my favorite track titles. The word "switchfoot" is actually in scribbled form..

Sf's collaboration with Relient K (a famous contemporary band in the christian music scene) & its called "The Appetite For Construction Tour" this is actually a fund raising charity tour but I've made it up to be an album. Anyway its just so nice how its title is the exact opposite of Guns' & Roses' album "The Appetite For Destruction". cool? :)
The initial color I tested with. Apparently gives a wrong bright candy sour feel. So I changed it for the former.

Adapted from the album "New Way To Be Human". Tried to capture the similar feel & use of method as of the original album artwork (bottom right corner or the poster, a fingerprint) Using flat dull colors thus leaving plenty of space for the word play. Those words are the tracks titles in the album. The typeface (font) is just like the HP commercial right? I think its the same one.

For this very piece I've borrowed the tree from Jon Foreman's EP albums & of course added in my own elements. You see the bird on the tip of the branch? Symbolic as a sign of hope on a withered tree. I actually attempted to give a wood grain effect to the background but it looks like a marker felt scribble without borders.
